Man disappears in Ganga after diving in for 'dramatic act', video goes viral

Haridwara: A 27-year-old man drowned in river Ganga in Haridwar on Tuesday after he was coaxed by his friends to jump into the flooded river to capture the ‘dramatic act’. The video of the incident has gone viral in the social media.

48-hours after he took the fatal plunge, the body of the man, identified as Ashish Chauhan from Gandhmirpur in Bhadrabad, Haridwar, has not been located yet.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday after Ashish and his friends reached the banks of Gangnahar (Ganga canal) traversing through the woods, where they settled down and decided to consume liquor.

Inebriated, Ashish was initially hesitant to jump into the river, but was convinced by his friends to take the dive as they wanted to take the video.

When the youth did not resurface for several minutes after jumping in, his friends decided to approach the Bhadrabad police, who, with the help of the jal police tried to locate the body, but have been unsuccessful as on Thursday.

Shocked at the turn of events, Ashish’s friends claimed that he was a good swimmer and that he had done similar acts many times in the past.
