Hyderabad: A teenage girl who planned to help her boyfriend set up a business by staging a robbery drama at her home and gave him Rs 22 lakh belonging to her father has been arrested by the Mailardevpally police. The police also arrested the girl’s boyfriend and his associate and recovered Rs 19.45 lakh in cash from them.

On August 3, a robbery case was registered by the Mailardevpally police following a complaint from Syed Muzaffar that four unidentified people entered his house, injured his daughter and robbed Rs 22.5 lakh from his house.

During the probe, the police verified the footage of the CCTV cameras and identified and zeroed in on Mohammed Ashraf Khan, 19, of Nagaram village.

On questioning, Khan revealed the drama. Ashraf and the complainant’s daughter, 17, wanted to live together. During Ashraf’s visit to his girlfriend’s house, she told him that her father ill-treats her and that she wanted to elope with him.

“On August 2, the girl informed about the cash at her house and asked him to take it away, while she would play the robbery drama to divert the police. They wanted to run away and live together with the money,” said Shamshabad deputy commissioner P.V. Padmaja.

Ashraf gave the money to his friend Mohammed Naseer alias Shafi, 21, from Kandukoor, and fled to Bengaluru in a flight, said the DCP, adding that Rs 19.45 lakh cash, flight ticket, a bike and a pair of clothes have been recovered from them.
