Tamil Nadu: Farmer ends life after tractor seizure
He could not pay his dues regularly and the firm obtained a court order for seizing his vehicle.
Tirupur: A farmer near Palladam committed suicide after officials from a private finance firm seized his tractor for not paying dues. A large number of farmers staged an agitation on Thursday to condemn the incident.Farmer Velliangirinathan, 60, from Malayampalayam village got vehicle loan for purchasing a tractor from a private financing firm.
He could not pay his dues regularly and the firm obtained a court order for seizing his vehicle. On Wednesday, officers took away his vehicle from his farm. On knowing it, he met officials at Palladam branch and requested for extending the time to pay the dues.
With no positive response, the farmer attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison and was rushed to the government hospital for treatment.
However, he died without responding to treatment. On Thursday large number of farmers thronged the firm to protest and demanded compensation.
