Sexual harrasment: 2 DYFI men held for mob justice
Police arrested two DYFI members, Satheesh Kumar and Kadirvel, and remanded them to judicial custody today, sources said.
Salem: The Salem police on Friday arrested two members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), affiliated to the CPI(M), for allegedly taking law into their own hands by assaulting a private school teacher arraigned in connection with a complaint of sexual harassment of one of the girl students.
Satheesh, 24, a mathematics teacher of a private school at Salem’s three roads junction area, it may be recalled, was recently thrashed by some members of the public for allegedly sexually harassing a girl student of class three.
The Sooramangalam All Women police station who had registered a case in this regard had arrested the teacher and had lodged him in Salem central jail after judicial remand. This had been stoutly opposed by the school students and their parents who counter-claimed it was an attempt to ‘frame’ the teacher on a false, baseless charge and demanded his release.
Meanwhile, Satheesh’s brother, Suresh, had filed a complaint at Pallapatti police, seeking action against those persons who had recently physically attacked the Mathematics teacher. Acting on that complaint, police arrested two DYFI members, Satheesh Kumar and Kadirvel, and remanded them to judicial custody today, sources said, adding, the cops were looking for the other miscreants.
