Hyderabad: CCTVs installed at hostels helped the Hyderabad city police nab a notorious laptop and mobile phone thief in SR Nagar, who used to target women’s hostels.
The police said Syed Raouf Pasha used to gain entry into hostels under the pretext of purchasing old mattresses. The police recovered properties worth Rs 5 lakh from his possession and handed over 25 mobile phones to their owners based on the IMEI number.
Mr A. Venkateswar Rao, DCP west zone, said that Syed Raouf Pasha, 28, was a scrap dealer and a resident of Kishanbagh in the city. He was involved in six cases under the Punjagutta police station and was arrested in November 2015. He was also detained under the PD Act and was in jail till January 2017.
“His main target was women’s hostels. He introduced himself as a trader dealing with old mattresses from hostels and entered the rooms when the occupants were away,” the DCP said.
On Saturday morning, while Pasha was moving suspiciously in SR Nagar he was nabbed.
“He confessed to have committed eight thefts, including six in SR Nagar and two in Punjagutta. He had stolen 15 mobiles and three laptops,” the DCP added. He has been sent to judicial remand.
