Kerala: Doctor booked for denying care
The police said that case would be initiated against Dr Lekha after vetting the attendance register.
ALAPPUZHA: A doctor at Kozhanchery district hospital was booked by Koipram police for delaying medical care to a minor girl who was sexually assaulted by a relative. According to the police, Dr M.S. Ganga, duty doctor at the hospital was charged under section 166A (disobeying direction under law)of IPC and 166B on Saturday evening. The FIR was registered following the allegation that the doctor did not attend to a minor girl who was admitted after being assaulted by a relative. Koyipram Police had registered a case on September 14 in this regard.
Earlier, following the complaint of relatives, the principal secretary (health) had suspended two gynaecologists including Dr M.S. Ganga and one Dr Lekha Madhav in the case. The police said that case would be initiated against Dr Lekha after vetting the attendance register. The parents of the child had also registered complaint with district collector alleging dereliction of duty against the doctors.
The district collector had also filed a report to the health secretary demanding action against the doctors. The incident took place when child was waiting for her school bus at the bus stop. The accused Reji, the neighbour of the child took her to a deserted house and assaulted her. Following this, when child was taken to the hospital, it is alleged that it took at least 8 hour before the doctor attended to the victim.
