Tamil Nadu: Husband killed, pregnant wife ends life

Chennai: A 27-year-old rowdy was hacked to death by a rival gang near Maraimalar Nagar in Kancheepuram district, 40 km from the city on early Saturday morning. Hours later, his pregnant wife committed suicide at her home, police said. The deceased were identified as Tamil Alagan and his wife Neelaveni (25). Tamil Alagan has several cases including two murder cases against him. He was also detained under the Goondas Act earlier, police sources said.
Meanwhile, around 1 am on Saturday, Tamil Alagan was returning home when a gang intercepted him and started attacking him. He started running towards his home and was hacked to death a few meters away from his residence. Maraimalai Nagar police rushed to the scene and moved him to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. Meanwhile, a police team enquired his wife Neelaveni around 4 am. Two hours later, she committed suicide, police said. Preliminary investigations revealed that the rowdy was murdered over turf war. Police have detained the deceased’s relative, Pushparaj (26), a rowdy and his accomplices, Gopalakrishnan and another person in connection with the murder. Maraimalai Nagar police are investigating.
