Tirupati: Tirupati district police have devised a comprehensive strategy to curb illegal betting during the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 matches.

Superintendent of police P. Parameswara Reddy presided over a crucial meeting with deputy superintendents of police and station house officers from all divisions within the district. They laid out strategies to dismantle cricket betting rackets operating within the region.

The SP instructed law enforcement officers to identify individuals involved in accepting bets during the cricket matches and dismantle their operations across the district by taking up necessary preventive measures.

As part of this initiative, all police stations and crime branch units in the district have commenced scrutinising records to identify people with a history of participating in illegal betting activities.

"We have instructed our sources to remain vigilant. We have intensified our online surveillance. Special task forces have been established to crack down on betting activities during ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 the moment information is received," Parameswara Reddy stated on Sunday.

Individuals found engaging in illegal betting activities will face charges under the Andhra Pradesh Gambling Act. Police suspect betting worth crores of rupees during the cricket world cup matches, particularly during the India-Pakistan match on October 14.

The SP has urged public to report any instances of cricket betting within the district by calling 100. He assured that identities of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
