Hyderabad: Food safety officials on Wednesday raided a unit involved in manufacturing adulterated chocolates and seized fake products packed in boxes of famous brands. Officials seized duplicate chocolates blended with harmful ingredients and preservatives.

Acting on a tip-off, the officials conducted the raid at Supraja Foods in Hyderguda. The company was involved in manufacturing and distributing fake chocolates in the city and suburbs using harmful chemicals and ingredients, Rajendrangar police said.

The food safety officials also found that the owner has been operating the unit without food and trade licence and was earning profits illegally for the past three months, police sources disclosed.

During inspection, the officers noticed that the products were prepared under unhygienic conditions and the team found a foul smell emanating from the nearby drain.

The officials sealed the unit and the seized material was sent for examination. Rajendranagar police have registered a case and are making efforts to trace the culprits.
