Nipani: While the state is grappling with continued cases of molestation in Bengaluru for the past some days, another horrific incident of rape on a minor girl has come to light in Belagavi district. This time, the police booked a schoolteacher on charges of allegedly raping and molesting his minor student repeatedly for the last six months in Nipani, 40 km from Belagavi city. The police arrested the teacher and his wife who were remanded to judicial custody by a local court.

The victim, Reena (name changed), was staying as a paying guest at the residence of the accused teacher, Anwar Hussain Hajarat Ali Nadaf (39), who was working with a local English medium school in Nipani for the last several years and staying with his wife Ruksana (28) at Ashtavinayak Nagar.

Reena is from Dhavaleshwar village in Gokak taluk. After her father's death, her grandfather brought her to Nadaf’s house as both families knew each other. The grandfather decided to leave Reena with Nadaf's family until she finished her schooling.

When Reena's mother left her with Nadaf at Nipani the first time, she had paid Rs 50,000 as advance for her daughter's stay and food. After a few weeks, Nadaf allegedly started molesting Reena, supported by his wife Ruksana. Later, he also allegedly raped Reena with the help of Ruksana. Nadaf had threatened Reena not to disclose it to anyone.

Recently, Reena had gone to stay with her mother and grandfather at Mudalgi for a short vacation. When the vacation got over, she refused to return to Nipani, saying that she was not interested in continuing her studies. When her grandfather insisted, she told him that she would go back but not stay at Nadaf’s house.

The worried grandfather asked the school principal, Latifa Pathan, to advise Reena. That was when the minor girl told the principal that Nadaf was raping and molesting her for the past six months.

The principal took the girl to Basaveshwar Chowk Police station, Nipani where cases were filed against Nadaf and his wife.
