66-year-old held for raping child in Malappuram district

Malappuram: Police on Wednesday arrested a 66-year-old man for abusing a seven-year-old girl in Paravakkal near Perinthalmanna.
Though they had registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against Kammali Paravakkal a week ago, he was absconding.

The accused allegedly tried to assault the girl at his home last week while she was playing with a friend in the neighbourhood. Later, when her mother realised about it, he tried to hush it up offering money which the girl’s family objected and filed a case.
Kammali was later produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate who remanded him in 14 days’ custody.
In another incident, the police held a 22-year-old man in Kolathur for allegedly abusing and impregnating a 17-year-old Dalit girl.
The three-month pregnant girl is now in a care home after producing before the Child Welfare Committee member Haris Panchili. The police is questioning the accused, Irshad Alungal.
