Hyderabad: T. Anitha, XII additional metropolitan sessions judge at Nampally, served a 20-year rigorous imprisonment on a 41-year-old Arabic teacher for sexually assaulting his 15-year-old step daughter at Tappachabutra in 2021.

The convict’s name was not revealed to protect the identity of the victim. The court relied on the statement of the victim, her mother and circumstantial evidence, which corroborated with their statements to sentence the teacher.

On several occasions, the accused had approached the High Court seeking a stay.

The accused was the victim’s mother’s third husband and taught Arabic at Karwan. In the absence of her mother, the teacher sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions.

The girl, fearing his wrath, did not tell anyone of the assault. She finally mustered courage and confided in her mother who reported it to police. A case was then registered under rape and POCSO act and he was arrested.

Her statement and her mother’s statement were recorded at the Bharosa centre for women and then her statement was recorded by a magistrate. During trial, the victim told the court how the accused had been assaulting her.
