Malegaon: Mob sets school on fire over six-year-old girl's sexual assault
Being miffed by the authorities' reaction, the father along with a few men barged into the school and vandalised it.
Nashik: A school was set on fire in Malegaon on Friday by an enraged mob as the authorities didn’t agree to meet the father of a six-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by the sweeper of the school, according to reports. No casualties have been reported as the students and staff members were safely evacuated.
According to police, the six-year-old apprised her mother and teacher of the incident that had taken place last week. On being intimated, the teacher assured the girl’s family that immediate action would be taken against the 24-year-old perpetrator, Ajay Dhanke; however, the school authorities failed to book him.
The situation took an ugly turn when the principal refused to meet the girl’s father. Being irked at the authorities' reaction, the father along with a few men barged into the school and vandalised it. Further, they also set the school on fire. The fire soon charred classrooms and desks into ashes. Around 500 students were present in the school; however, no casualties were reported as all of them were evacuated.
The district police rushed to the spot immediately, taking the situation under control.
Additional Superintendent of Police Sunil Kadasane said "the situation is peaceful and under-control with no untoward incident being reported in the night."
The Police had detained the sweeper in connection with the alleged sexual assault of the girl.
