Hyderabad: A donation of Rs 3 lakh made to the State Home for Women and Children by an NRI named Susheel Thakur was not utilised, a non-government organisation of the city which received the complaint said. in June 2016, Mr Thakur had donated the money to in-charge Haripriya Saraswathi and 180 women and children were entertained with a mimicry and magic show. The donation was also used to pay the tuition fee dues of six orphans at schools.

Mr Thakur who approached Haripriya for a receipt of his donation for tax purposes claims that he was threatened for asking for a receipt. In a detailed letter Mr Thakur explained, “I had to engage a lawyer to deal with Mrs Haripriya as she was behaving unreasonably. When the lawyer sent the notice Rs 15,000 was returned to me and the rest was promised to be returned in instalments. This was ridiculous as the money was paid as a donation and not for use by officials.”

Complaints to higher authorities didn’t yield any response and he has now filed a complaint with the non-government organisation demanding that the police inquire into the case. Mrs Anuradha Rao of the non-government organisation said, “The government must look into it as donations are for orphans. Misuse of funds must be investigated and the culprits booked so that such things do not happen in future.” The state home department refused comment stating that they have not received any complaint.
