Woman beaten, stripped in Maharashtra by mob; 20 held

Thane: A 35-year-old woman was allegedly beaten and stripped by a mob in a village in Maharashtra, following which over 20 people were apprehended, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday when the victim was travelling in a car along with some villagers, in Pacchapur village in Bhiwandi tehsil, a Thane police spokesperson said.

As per the complaint filed last night, the mob stopped the car after which they pulled the victim out, attacked her with weapons and stripped her, he said, adding the other villagers present in the car were beaten too.

A case was registered under relevant sections of IPC against over 40 persons, including some women, at the Padgha police station, he said. Investigations are underway, police said.

Twenty of them were apprehended since last night till this afternoon, the officer added.
