Namakkal: In continuing agony for the P S Kumaraswamy-owned private company which supplies nutritious ingredients including eggs to the State school noon meals programme, Income Tax (I-T) officials continued their search and seizure operations in premises related to the firm for the fourth day running on Sunday, even as one of the firm staff who attempted suicide following questioning by I-T sleuths has been shifted to a hospital in Coimbatore from the Salem government hospital.
P. Karthikeyan, 32, who works for the company suffered a serious spinal injury as he fell off from the house terrace at Andipalayam near here, right behind the company's office, after reportedly telling the I-T sleuths that he felt giddy and walked out on Friday evening. Reports here on Sunday say that Karthikeyan may be questioned again once his health gets better.
A police case has also been filed against Karthikeyan for attempting suicide. Sources said the I-T officials who have divided into ten teams are searching the firm's premises, its godown, houses of some of the relatives of Mr Kumaraswamy, besides those of the firm's chartered accountants and some others. Several incriminating documents are said to have been seized during the raids after I-T department swung into action on tipoff of alleged income tax evasion by the firm.
