Kerala: Case against policemen, victim loses hearing

The case was registered under section 326 for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous means.

The policeman, Mash Das of Janayugam Nagar at Kadappakkada, had attacked Santhosh Felix of Hercules' of Anjukallumoodu during a routine vehicle check at Ashramam link road here on Friday evening

KOLLAM: The police  on Monday registered a case against the accused policeman Mash Das who had  attacked motorcyclist  Santhosh Felix  with a wireless set at Ashramam link road here on Friday.   The police took the  statement from the victim at a private hospital here after the Police Complaint Authority found serious lapses on the part of the police. The case was registered under section  326 for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous means.

The victim has lost the sense of hearing in his left ear, according to the doctors.  Police Complaint Authority chairman Justice Narayana  Kurup,  who visited Santhosh at the hospital,  said the police had committed a serious mistake  by not registering a case against the culprit.  He also said the government should meet his medical expenses and give him compensation. “Santhosh has been  given sedatives due to the unbearable pain he has, ”  Sandeep Felix, the victim’s brother, told DC.
