Hyderabad: A day after a two-year-old child was mowed down by a car, police identified the car and the driver by tracking the vehicle’s registration number. The suspect was identified as Byagai Santhosh, 21, a driver, who was driving his employer’s car. Santhosh, against whom a case was booked for causing death through negligence, has been arrested by the Saidabad police. “Santhosh works for a person named Prakash, an LIC agent. On Monday morning he was going to Prakash’s house in Lokayukta Colony when the mishap occurred,” said Saidabad inspector K. Saittaih.

After the accident, fearing assault by the public, Santhosh drove away and did not reveal it to his employer. Later, police tracked the car using images from CCTV cameras. On Monday morning, a toddler was mowed down by a speeding car in Saidabad police station limits. The child, S. Chaitra, was the younger daughter of provision shop owner S. Raju, a resident of Vishnunagar.

“The family has a provision shop in Vishnunagar on the colony's approach road. On Monday at around 8:30 am while the parents were in their shop and the child was playing in front of it, a car hit her killing her on the spot. The driver fled from the scene,” said the inspector. Based on a complaint from Mr Raju, Saidabad police booked a case under Section 304A (death through negligence) of IPC and had launched an investigation.
