Hyderabad: CCTV cameras helped the Cyberabad police to solve the kidnap of a two-month-old boy in Rajendranagar. The police arrested the kidnapper Devara Venkatamma, a GHMC contract employee, on Tuesday, rescued the child Ramu and handed him over to his parents. Police said B. Krishnaveni, 30, a housewife staying at Langarhouz, and her son Ramu went to the Kasipathi toddy compound in Hyderguda last Wednesday. After consuming toddy she felt drowsy and to take a nap she went to sleep in front of a church in Shivanagar, behind the toddy compound.

Meanwhile, the suspect Devara Venkatamma, 45, who was passing by saw Krishnaveni sleeping with her child. Seeing the child she was reminded of her second son Balakrishna and daughter-in-law Sujatha who were childless even after eight years of marriage. Venkatamma found the woman asleep and as there was no one else, she picked up the child and walked away. She then gave the child to Sujatha and told her that she found him in the bin.

Police checked CCTVs on the church premises and found a woman picking up the child. “We identified the woman as Venkatamma, a GHMC contract sweeper. We nabbed her on Tuesday and rescued the child from her son’s house, inspector Umender said. Venkatamma was arrested and sent to judicial custody. The child was handed over to his parents.
