HYDERABAD: The Balanagar zone special operations team along with the Medchal police of Cyberabad nabbed seven drug peddlers and seized 130 grams of ketamine, commonly known as a date rape drug, and 10.5 kgs of dry ganja from them on Tuesday. Two suppliers, one each from Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are absconding, said Medchal DCP P. Shabarish.

The main accused Uma Shankar from Odisha, with his associates, had procured ketamine from Odisha and dry ganja from Rajahmundry of Andhra Pradesh and was bringing it to the city to sell it here.

Acting on a tip-off, police nabbed them at Kandlakoya of Medchal. Uma Shankar’s close associate Samuel Babu, who was also arrested, was earlier involved in three trafficking cases, while other persons landed in the police net for the first time.

Ketamine is also known as Special K, Kitkat, and Cat Valium and is labelled a recreational drug. It is also used as a date rape drug because it causes loss of consciousness and is not easy to detect by the unwary victim because it is odourless and colourless. Ketamine at high dosages can be fatal.
