Miyapur: Watchman hit by car dies

Hyderabad: A watchman who was helping a teenager to cross the road in Miyapur was hit by a car and died while undergoing treatment in a private hospital on Friday.

The Miyapur police identified the victim as K. Sathyan-arayana, 49, who worked as a watchman at Vamshi residency, Madinaguda. According to police the victim while he was helping the teenager, who lives in the same apartment complex where he was working, to cross the road at Madinaguda bus stop at 8 am on Thursday. 

Speaking to this newspaper, inspector Harish Chandra Reddy of Miyapur police station said, “A speeding car hit the watchman and fearing the locals the car driver fled from the scene. The victim sustained severe head injury.” 

The locals immediately rushed a bleeding Sathyanarayana to a nearby private hospital. While undergoing treatment he succumbed to the injuries on Friday morning.

The teenager’s family paid the medical expenses of the victim which was around Rs 1 lakh, police said. 

The police booked a case against the car driver under section 304(a) and further investigation is underway. Meanwhile police handed over the dead body to family members after autopsy at Gandhi Hospital.
