Hyderabad: A Mumbai-based air passenger who arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad in an Air India flight was arrested by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials for smuggling gold by concealing it in his rectum.

The officials of AIU said that the gold was actually smuggled from Colombo to Chennai in an international flight and was again taken to Hyderabad. The gold bars weigh 1.2 kg and are worth Rs 38 lakh.

An AIU official said that following intelligence inputs indicating that gold smuggling was carried out by domestic passengers who were travelling in the flights in the domestic sector, the customs officials of AIU increased surveillance at RGIA.
