ALAPPUZHA: M.A. Navas, the office attender of  Government Higher Secondary School, Areeparambu, Cherthala, has denied the charge that he had shown obscene pictures to a girl student on a computer in the school. The student had written an  anonymous letter to Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KeSCPCR) in September  saying that besides showing her computer pictures, he had also asked her to go to the  bathroom with him to see obscene clips on the mobile phone.

The case was forwarded to the office of the Dy.SP, District Crime Records Bureau (DCRB), and the Arthungal police were  asked to investigate the matter. They have not identified the student so far.   Navas, who filed a counter-petition with the Circle Inspector, Mararikulam, alleged that the letter was an attempt to hide the  misappropriation of funds by a section of women teachers.

“They were conspiring to oust the  headmaster, a physically challenged person,  whom I supported.  He had recently removed a senior woman teacher from the charge of  handling the  midday meal funds.  This was why I was targeted,” he claimed and said that he had complained to the  deputy director of education  to probe the charges.  “I think the letter was written by some outsider,” he said. However, the teachers  alleged that  Navas had a history of abusing students. He was given  punishment transfer to the present school following similar charges. “The police officials who recorded our statement said it was a genuine case,” they said.
