Hyderabad: Doctor conducts illegal tests, arrested

Hyderabad: Rachakonda SHE teams conducted a decoy operation and  arrested a doctor in Ibrahimpatnam for conducting illegal prenatal sex determination tests on Saturday.

Ibrahimpatnam police and the Rachakonda She Team assisted the District Medical and Health Officer for conducting a decoy operation on Prathyusha Scanning Centre.

Mahesh M. Bhagwat, Rachakonda police commissioner said, “Ibrahimpatnam police and the SHE team conducted a decoy operation. We sent a woman constable who was six months pregnant, and asked her to undergo a sex determination examination through mediator Jangaiah, who ran SS Diagnostic centre, adjacent to this one.”

When the woman constable approached the doctor, he conducted a scan, charged her Rs7,000, and disclosed the gender of the baby.

Following this, the decoy team apprehended Kishore, and seized Rs1,000, an ultrasound scanning machine and other equipment.

Mr Bhagwat said the doctor was running this scanning centre for three years with the help of Jangaiah. “We are also going to complain to the Indian Medical Association,” he added.

The Ibrahimpatnam police registered a case under Section  420 and 406 of IPC and Sec. 23 of PCPNDT Act, 1994 and sent the accused to custody.
