Chennai: Grocery shop owner beaten to death
The episode turned fatal after the other man hit Sekar with a wooden reaper repeated till he collapsed and died.
Chennai: A 54-year-old grocery shop owner was allegedly beaten to death following a road rage at Kodungaiyur in north Chennai on Wednesday evening after a bike crash.
The deceased was identified as A. Sekar of Kamaraj Salai at Kodungaiyur, who was running a provision store. Sekar was riding his bike on Narayanasamy Garden Fifth Street when he collided with another bike carrying a man and a woman. Sekar reportedly picked a quarrel with the rider of the other bike.
The man and the woman started abusing Sekar and in a fit of rage, the man took a wooden reaper from the roadside and hit Sekar on his head repeatedly until he collapsed and died. Police said Sekar was on his way to meet a trader at Moolakadai when the incident occurred.
After he fell dead, the woman and the man left him on the road and sped away on their bike. Local residents informed police about the incident. The body was sent to Stanley Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
The Kodungaiyur police have registered a case of murder. They said they were yet to identify the suspect. “We have conducted some enquires with local residents and trying to figure out the identity of the suspect with the information provided by them”, the police said.
