Bengaluru: Three students die in freak accident on NICE Road

The police have informed the families of the deceased and shifted the bodies to a hospital for the postmortem.

Bengaluru: In a freak accident, three students died when the driver of the car they were traveling in lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the retaining wall of a flyover on NICE Road near Begur-Koppa on Friday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Harsha Srivastava (23) from Andhra Pradesh, Arshia Kumari (24) from Jharkhand and Shruthi Gopinath (24) from Kerala. The condition of the driver, D. Praveen (24), a resident of Bannerghatta, and another occupant Pavit Kohli, (23) is said to critical and they are undergoing treatment at a private hospital, the Horamavu traffic police said.

Harsha, Arshia, Shruthi and Pavit were studying in the fourth semester of MBA at Alliance University in Anekal. All the deceased, except their friend-cum driver Praveen, were living together in a rented house near Bannerghatta.

The police said that they went in Praveen’s car everyday to the college and on Friday too they were had taken the car. When they reached the flyover near Begur-Koppa on NICE Road, Praveen lost control and crashed into the retaining wall of the flyover. The impact was such that the car turned turtle and rolled multiple times before coming to a halt.

The police and passersby rushed Shruthi, Praveen and Pavit to a hospital, while Harish and Arshia died on the spot. “Due to the impact, the bodies of the victims were stuck inside the mangled car and we called a JCB to lift the car. Cutters were used to remove the victims before rushing them to the hospital,” a police officer said.

The police have informed the families of the deceased and shifted the bodies to a hospital for the postmortem. A case has been registered at the Hulimavu traffic police station.
