Hyderabad: CBI books staff of Khairatabad head post office

Officials said the issue came to light in surprise checks by the CBI post-demonetisation.

In the business segment, 73 per cent respondents are facing huge cash crunch due to demonetisation as they are unable to fulfill their daily cash requirements to pay wages to daily wagers and contractual workforce.

Hyderabad: CBI has registered a case against staff from the Khairatabad head post office for “fraudulently exchanging” Rs 64.97 lakh of demonetised notes with new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes from November 10 -December 31 period through abuse of official powers. Officials said the issue came to light in surprise checks by the CBI post-demonetisation.

The CBI identified eight accused — the main treasurer M. Mahesh and seven other staff members. It was found that all the accused along with a few unknown persons had exchanged demonetised currency in huge quantities without filling up forms.  Case has been registered.
