Rape, attempt to murder of minor: Man gets 2 life terms

Chennai: Mahila Court has sentenced a youth to undergo double life sentence on charge of attempting to murder a six-year-old girl after raping her 10 years ago. The special judge also slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 on him.
According to additional public prosecutor, Gowri Asokan, the victim’s father was working as construction worker. On February 6, 2008 midnight he noticed his six-year old daughter was missing. Immediately, he and his wife searched for their girl. He found her in a seriously injured condition in an under-construction building. She was bleeding all over.
He suspected someone had entered into the house and abducted her while the family members were fast asleep. She was raped. She was also assaulted and beaten up severely in an attempt cover up the rape. The child was rushed to a private hospital, from where she was shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. She was under treatment for nearly three months. On his complaint, Kumaran Nagar Police registered a case under sections 450, 376 (2) (f) and 307 of IPC. Following the probe the police arrested C Iyyappan, 25.
On completion of the trial, judge R.N. Manjula said the chain of facts, evidence and other materials available in the case conclusively prove the guilt of the accused. The prosecution proved the charges.
The judge ordered the accused to undergo 10 years rigorous imprisonment for committing offence under section 450 of IPC, life imprisonment for committing offence under section 376 (2) (f) of IPC and another life imprisonment for committing offence under section 307 of IPC.
Stating that the victim has to be rehabilitated by awarding suitable compensation, the judge recommended the District Legal Service Authority to consider the case for the purpose of awarding appropriate compensation to the victim.
