VIJAYAWADA: The district police in Prakasam have traced and restored 142 mobile phones after they lost these in recent times. “We traced these phones through tracking the signals via new technology. After locating the phones, we handed them over to the people who lost them,” SP Mallika Garg said here on Tuesday.

So far, the police recovered 3447 mobile phones lost in the district and handed these over to the owners. Some of these were recovered from places outside the state, she said.

The SP said she had devised a novel proforma in every PS and issued advisories to all SHOs to accept all such complaints promptly.

She said a special technical team was set up in the IT Core wing to trace the missing mobiles. “As many as 142 mobiles were recovered within four days through a special mobile tracing drive. Around 7564 missing mobile complaints have been received across the district since the inception of the Missing Mobile Tracing programme from November 1, 2021 to May 8, 2023.”

The rest of the lost phones will also be identified and restored to the victims, the SP said.

Garg advised the public to give complaints on lost/missing mobile phones at the local PS or through the police WhatsApp number 9121102266. She said those who find forgotten/missing mobile phones in public places should hand them over at the nearest local police station.

The team of policemen with the IT Core included SI Ajay Kumar, constables Malik and Sulalaiah and outsourced staff Avinash.
