Five Andhra Pradesh kids rescued from Kerala town
Five girls from Andhra Pradesh, aged between 9 and 16 were rescued from four households of Aniyaram near Chokli.
KOZHIKODE: The rescue of five children who were being employed as house maids in Panur had once again shed light on the region which is infamous for the evil practice.
Five girls from Andhra Pradesh, aged between 9 and 16 were rescued from four households of Aniyaram near Chokli on Tuesday. Authorities are suspecting the involvement of inter-state child trafficking racket. According to Childline, several children are being employed as house helps in Panur, Kadavathur, Aniyaram, Champad, Mundothparambu areas.
“It is difficult to trace the children in these houses which lay disconnected to the outer world. These children were rescued by the visit of six Childline workers at six houses simultaneously,” said Joble Jose, district Childline coordinator.
Last month, district legal service authority team had visited the area to study about the grave issue following a complaint filed by the Kannur-based NGO, Janakeeya Samiti.
“The sub-judge led team had given report to conduct a detailed probe after the visit. Close to 200 children are being employed in the affluent NRI houses here. No one knew what is happening inside the palatial houses separated by big compound walls from outside,” said Maneesh. E, Samiti general secretary.
The Samiti alleged that child trafficking rackets were distributing children from AP and Karnataka to local homes. Childline officials wanted a detailed probe.
