Accused in ATM theft brought to Kerala
The SIT suspects that this gang might have robbed the ATM at Kazhakkoottam as well on May 26.
ALAPPUZHA: The special investigation team (SIT) probing the ATM theft case has brought the accused Suresh Kumar 37, of Idayileveetil House, Pennookkara, Chengannur from New Delhi on Friday. Four SIT members led by Mararikulam circle inspector J Umeshkumar took Suresh to Alappuzha district crime branch office. “He will be produced before Chengannur judicial first class magistrate court on Saturday after noon,” the CI said.
Suresh was arrested from Kasturba Gandhi Marg in Delhi on Tuesday. Circle inspector K Sadan, was camping in New Delhi with six policemen to arrest the prime accused Aslup Khan, a head constable of Delhi policeman and other burglars involved in the case. Khan was attached with R.K. Puram unit of Crime Branch of Delhi Police. Delhi police said that Khan had gone on a month's leave on December 15, soon after demonetisation kicked off. Later, he had extended his leave for one more month but continued being on duty illegally. Later, the Delhi police suspended him from service.
On April 25, Khan and Suresh along with the gang looted Rs 3.69 lakh from SBI's ATM at Cheriyanad and they tried to rob two more SBI ATMs at Ramapuram in Kayamkulam and Mararikkulam. They couldn't break the cash box at Ramapuram and CCTV recorded the visuals. The SIT suspects that this gang might have robbed the ATM at Kazhakkoottam as well on May 26. More details could be available only after the interrogation of Suresh, said SIT members.
