Bengaluru: Parking lot goon punches MNC staffer

Bengaluru: A last moment plan for dinner at a Ramzan food festival near Jayadeva Hospital with his friends turned into a nightmare for a 30-year-old employee of a multinational company on Thursday night when he was allegedly punched in the face and assaulted by a few men, claiming to be parking lot attendants.
Anees (name changed) has sustained injuries on his lip in the incident that took place around 11.30 pm on Thursday. Anees told Deccan Chronicle, “I was about to leave for home from office when a few of my friends asked me to join them for the Ramzan food festival. After the food mela, my friends left.”
Then he was taking his bike out, a man approached him and demanded a parking fee. “I told him that there was no designated parking allotted there and nor was there a signboard indicating that it was a paid-for parking lot. The man started hurling abuses at me. When I told him not to misbehave, he punched me,” said Anees.
The man allegedly threatened him that if he tried to pick-up a fight, he would have to bear the consequences. “The man called his aides and threatened me to go with him to a by-lane, probably to extort me. I refused and managed to get away from the spot,” he said.
Anees went to a nearby hospital and got first-aid on Saturday morning. Asked about the parking slip, the victim said that those running the parking lot are from Yarab Nagar slum nearby and are not attached to any authorised agency. “Later when I checked, I found out that these people turn empty plots into parking lots and collect fees,” Anees said.
On Saturday, Anees approached the jurisdictional police and registered an assault case.
