1 held for deer hunting in Perambalur district

PERAMBALUR: Forest department officials on Sunday nabbed one person and are on the lookout for another five who were allegedly involved in deer hunting in the reserve forest areas in Venbavur and Maavilangai, in the district.
Police sources said that a night patrol party found three motorcycles parked on the roadside along the forest area, triggering suspicion of human movement inside the forest.
Police also noticed torch light flashes inside the forest.
When the team entered the forest to investigate, they noticed a gang involved in deer hunt.
On seeing the police, the gang managed to flee. However, they nabbed one Mathalaimuthu (54) of Annamangalam, and later handed him over to the forest department.
During questioning, Mathalaimuthu said that the group used to hunt deer every Sunday, and forest officials seized a carcass of a deer, three country-made guns and three motorcycles, other hunting weapons and explosives from him.
