BENGALURU: High drama prevailed early Tuesday in Water Tank Road in Kathriguppe in C K Achchkattu after women investors along with a rowdy sheeter Yashaswini assaulted a woman member of Karnataka Capital Credit Cooperative Bank (KCCCB) board for duping gullible people.

The suspect, identified as Usha Rani, a resident of water tank road in Katriguppe faced the wrath of women when she went to her house early Tuesday to shift her household articles. The injured was rushed to a private hospital for treatment.

According to the police, two years ago, Usharani had collected fixed deposit of Rs 25,000 from more than 100 members. She had assured to get 5 per cent interest to the investors and promised that she would also sanction loans up to Rs 5 lakh, without any security.

Several local residents approached her for the loans, but she demanded commission from them. She collected commission, but failed to keep up her promise and for the last one month Usharani was absconding.

However, she ran out of luck on Monday late night when she returned home in a bid to transport her household articles. The locals gathered in front of her house and assaulted her. When she tried to hide below a cot, she was dragged out. The police rushed to the spot and shifted her to the hospital, said the police.

History-sheeter Yashaswini, who was involved in an assault case recently in Subramanyapura, was also among those who attacked Usharani. She attacked Usharani with a wooden plank.

Usharani had a lodged a complaint on Yashaswini on June 8 accusing her of robbing Rs 10 lakh. Yashaswini used the opportunity to settle scores with Usharani and is now absconding, police said.

It is said that two other board members Narendra Sharma and Umadevi also cheated residents the same way. Usharani, Umadvei and Sharma were involved in similar acts in Anekal, Ramanagar, Tumakuru, said the police.

Police said, “People from Bengaluru, Ramanagara, Tumakuru and other districts have invested money through Usharani. Around Rs 80 crore was collected by the members of the bank and members had absconded after they failed to return the benefits that they assured. In this connection, cases were registered in Vijayanagar, Gangammanagudi police and many other police stations,” said a police officer.

He further said that after assaulting Usharani, Yashwaswini and her aides fled the spot. Some other investors handed over Usharani to police. Later, she was released on bail.
