Hyderabad: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) will probe the crimes and properties of Nayeemuddin. The SIT will also probe the links the gangster maintained with some corrupt police officials including one holding the rank of Addl. SP and revenue authorities.
Nayeem’s activities were believed to have had the backing of senior cops and influential politicians, which also helped him remain cool, spread his tentacles and evade arrest.
In SIT focus are the names of a brother-in-law of ex-MLA Sudheer Reddy, named Veramallu Anjaneyulu, regarding a Rs 3.5-crore transaction; MoUs with construction companies like Sri Sai Constructions and Builders run by Venkatesh Goud, title deeds of Lal Bhai of Gowlipura connected to a DSP of Mansurabad, settlement of Metta Srinivasulu and 56 different ID proofs with passport-size photos placed on them, and several other documents that were found during the raids on Monday.
Around 239 mobile phones have been recovered from the dens, all of them used for confusing, misleading or hoodwinking the agencies who tracked calls based on IMEI numbers. DGP Anurag Sharma said he would hand over the cases to SIT, as evidence relating to the cases has to be extricated and examined from several TS districts.
Cyberabad West police commissioner Naveen Chand said clarity was yet to emerge vis-a-vis various seized matters. “While the case is being handed over to the SIT, investigators have to segregate the seized articles or documents — there are those pertaining to revenue and those that are to be sent to the forensic lab for ballistic and chemical examination. We have closed the panchanama (seizure report) after 12 hour of searches in his Alkapuri township houses. It is placed before the court. We will continue the work with the permission of the court.”
When asked about reports that seized documents included those of lands worth more than '1,000 crore in Kondapur etc., Mr Chand said, “We can arrive at a figure only after an audit by experts.”
The imported weapons found in Nayeem’s house included two pistols (model type 54 Tokarev-USSR 7.62 mm and a Pak-made Beretta 32 bore Belgium KF with 7.65 rounds), a Python revolver and ammunition made in the US and a Mauser firearm made in Germany.
A pistol with three live rounds was also recovered from the handbag of one of the arrested women accomplices. Police also seized an Audi car and some two-wheelers from Nayeem’s main hideout.
Around 175 land documents were found in Nayeem’s den in the city. Most of them were of plots registered in Bommaipally village of Bhongir mandal and Bhongir town. Details of title deeds pertain to lands in Saroornagar, Aushapur in Ghatkesar and Ramanthapur. An intelligence official said, “We are estimating his properties to be worth around Rs 500 crore to Rs 600 crore. The lands he grabbed are mainly in highly-priced areas in Cyberabad.”
Land details pertaining to Survey No. 87 to an extent of nine acres, 37 guntas in Kondapur, some survey numbers in Shaikpet, Jubilee Hills, an agreement copy of Gandhi Babu and Surya Prakash Reddy were also found.
According to Nalgonda police, 400 original land documents were seized in raids on Nayeem’s dens in seven places in Nalgonda district. Nalgonda SP Prakash Reddy said, “Nayeem’s properties are concentrated in the IT Zone in Cyberabad and in Nalgonda, Hyderabad and Khammam.”
