Bleeding woman creates flutter in Police Commissionerate office in Chennai
27-year-old claims to be victim of domestic violence.
Chennai: High drama prevailed in the City Police Commissionerate after a 27-year-old woman, who had lost at least 4 teeth in domestic violence and was bleeding in the mouth, was pinned down by the cops on security duty when she jumped the queue and ran towards the eight-storey main building, on Friday.
The woman, identified as Paapaathi (27), sprang another surprise for the security personnel as she claimed that she had already taken an overdose of sleeping pills due to inaction on her complaints against her husband preferred with Teynampet All Women Police station.
The woman alleged that her husband, Selvakumar (37), had been acting weird of late. He had reportedly been subjecting her to violence frequently and that he had thrashed her on Friday morning as well while also threatening to kill their only son. The Wallace Garden resident was pacified by the cops and then taken away from the spot.
“My husband was in a relationship. I have no issues with that. He should let me and our son in peace. But he keeps inventing reasons to thrash me. He keeps telling me that he would kill my son. I have filed four complaints with the local station. However, no action had been taken. This had become his encouragement to keep thrashing me up,” she told the cops.
When Paapaathi was taken into custody, she corrected her earlier claim of having taken sleeping pills by saying she was planning to if her complaint was not acted upon.
She was advised not to resort to such behaviour in future and to approach the local police station for redressal of grievances besides providing her medical assistance at a Government Hospital. To verify her claims, Selvakumar who runs a bookstore in Moore Market Complex was summoned for interrogation later in the day.
