Basheer murder case: Search for weapons in river
Basheer was brutally attacked with lethal weapons by a group at Kottara Chowki on January 3.
Mangaluru: After nabbing the four accused in the Basheer murder case, the police on Wednesday searched for the weapons used for the crime in the Netravathi River where they were allegedly thrown by the accused.
Basheer was brutally attacked with lethal weapons by a group at Kottara Chowki on January 3 when he was about to go home from his fast food joint. This attack was in retaliation for the murder of a Sangh parivar activist, Deepak Rao in Katipalla on the same afternoon.
The police had arrested Shrijith PK alias Shriju of Uppala, Kishan Poojary, Dhanush Poojary of Alape and Sandesh Kotyan of Manjeshwaram in connection with the crime.
According to police sources, during the inquiry, the accused had told the police that after attacking Basheer with the leathal weapons, they had gone to Netravathi bridge from where the weapons and also mobile phones were thrown into the Netravathi River. They was done to ensure that the police did not get the evidence of the murder. However during investigation, the accused themselves are said to have revealed that they disposed the weapons in the river. Following this the police team along with swimmers searched for the weapons in the river on Wednesday.
Officials along with swimmers and divers searched the river for a couple of hours. Source said that there could be two more people who are linked to the case. Police teams are investigating the case to find out all those who were involved in the crime.
