Two held for conversion' of woman on ISIS plot in Ernakulam
The accused also allegedly used these documents to get their marriage registered in May 2016.
Kochi: The cops on Wednesday arrested two persons from North Paravoor in Ernakulam in connection with the alleged forcible conversion of a 25-year-old woman with the intention of taking her to Syria and join the ISIS.
The arrested were identified as Fawas Jamal and Siyad. “The duo was held for helping the main accused Muhammed Riyas for forcible conversion of the woman. Their interrogation is on,” a senior police officer said.
Riyas, a native of New Mahe near Thalassery, had fled the country.
According to the complaint, the victims, a native of Pathanamthitta, had met Riyas while studying in Bengaluru in 2014. He allegedly forced her to have sex while secretly recording it. Later, he threatened her with the recordings and made her join a madrassa. The accused also allegedly used these documents to get their marriage registered in May 2016.
Riyaz took her to Saudi Arabia and allegedly made her watch videos of Islamic preacher Zakir Naik but a few months later, she contacted her family and flew back to India.
