Undertrial jumps Mangaluru prison

Mangaluru: Mangaluru prison, is again in the news for wrong reasons. This time an undertrial sneaked outside the ‘tight security’ district prison and the officials failed to notice him!
The prisoner is identified as Jinnappa of Gardadi village in Belthangady Taluk. He was arrested under POCSO Act for an incident that took place two years ago.
He was also accused of using mobile phone and ganja inside the prison. Sources said that on Friday Jinnappa was on cooking duty. Around 3.30 am he was allowed inside the kitchen and he found a snag in the cooking gas stove.
When he came out of the kitchen to check the gas connection, he found the security personnel asleep. Taking advantage of the situation, Jinnappa is said to have moved towards the compound wall near the old prison and jumped outside.
By the time prison officials got to know, Jinnappa had fled. Though the prison security was beefed up after the 2015 double murder, an undertrial still managed to escape.
