Hyderabad: CCTV cameras helped the police to nab a four-member robbery gang which robbed women visiting toddy compounds. The gang used to offer to drop them in their autorickshaws and rob their gold jewellery and cash.
Police also seized 60 grams of gold, 1.950 kg silver, Rs 10,600, two autorickshaws and three mobile phones from them. The arrested men were identified as R. Laxman, K. Tirupathi, V. Babu and K. Shankar.
East Zone DCP Dr A. Ravinder said that Laxman, Tirupathi and Babu were autorickshaw drivers and Shankar a daily wage worker. They used to move around toddy compounds and wait for single women coming out.
"Once they see a woman leaving the compound drunk they used to offer lifts and midway divert the vehicle to an isolated area. After that they threaten them and rob their jewellery and other valuables," Dr Ravinder said.
Last Monday, the gang robbed two women who came out from a toddy shop in Champapet and robbed them. Based on CCTV footages collected from the surroundings and other clues police nabbed them and recovered the gold and cash. The arrested men were produced before court and sent to judicial custody.
