₹ 80-lakh cyber fraud detected in Amalapuram postal circle
Online fraudster breached IPPDS and transferred amounts from deposits in post offices under Amalapuram circle to other accounts
KAKINADA: Cyber fraudsters have breached the Indian Postal Payment Digital System (IPPDS) and diverted ₹ 80 lakh from individual accounts in Amalapuram postal circle of Konaseema district to their individual accounts.
Amalapuram police have received an alert from Postmaster General’s Office in New Delhi in this regard.
When contacted, Amalapuram postal superintendent P.V.L.N. Bala Satyanarayana told Deccan Chronicle that an online fraudster breached IPPDS and transferred amounts from deposits in post offices under Amalapuram circle to other accounts. Satyanarayana said he has written to Postmaster General of Visakhapatnam seeking appointment of a committee with technical experts to unearth the fraud.
The Amalapuram postal superintendent, however, assured postal depositors that their amounts are quite safe and they need not have worry on this account.
It is learnt the fraud had first been detected in Vilasa post office. Fraudsters breached into passwords and ID codes of postal superintendent and post masters and transferred funds into their own accounts.
Verification of accounts is going on at several post offices, including Ramachandrapuram, sources said.
