Rachakonda cops crack down on vehicles without number plates

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police said it would book criminal cases on owners whose vehicles do not have registration numbers, as most offenders arrested in chain-snatching, property offences and other crimes were found to be using such vehicles.

Since January, the police have imposed fines on 48,998 vehicles for this rule violation under the Motor Vehicle Act.

“Despite receiving a challan, a few vehicle riders who are repeatedly plying on roads without registration. They are being caught by special traffic enforcement teams and charged under Section 192 of the Motor Vehicle Act,” said V. Satyanarayana, the joint commissioner of Rachakonda police.

Satyanarayana said that six such repeat offenders were produced in court and were sent to jail for one to three days, fined Rs 3,000- Rs 5,000 or both.
