Hazipur: A widow in Uttar Pradesh was allegedly gangraped for a year as she was unable to repay loan, and was later killed by the moneylender, who hung her body from a tree to make it look like a suicide.

The woman identified as Lata Devi was a resident of Hazipur village in Uttar Pradesh and her husband passed away 10 years ago forcing her to take care of her daughter by herself. She had taken a loan of Rs 20,000 for her daughter's wedding to meet the expenses, despite selling one bigha of her land.

The moneylender agreed to lend her the sum on an interest of 15 per cent. However, things took an unpleasant turn when he started demanding money a month after the wedding.

When Devi tried to reason with him, he agreed not to demand money from her till she remains in a sexual relationship with him. Being left with no choice, the victim helplessly agreed.

However, he soon started taking advantage of her along with another 'friend'. He later forced her to entertain several other people.

When Devi refused, he abducted and gangraped her for an entire year. When she threatened to go to the police, he strangled her to death and hung her body to a tree.

The matter is being investigated by local police, but the victim's cousin alleged that the police are trying to protect the murderers.
