Banned plastic goods seized in Alandur

Chennai: Health department officials of the Greater Chennai corporation, on Monday raided at least 50 shops in Alandur and seized 1.5 tones of banned plastics items.
The officials have been conducting raids in private shops and markets since January 1, from when the ban plastic ban came into force. They had seized tonnes and tonnes of plastics, even since the ban.
Meanwhile on Monday, following growing complaints on the usage of plastics in local shops in Alandur, a team of health officials headed by Malika, raided at least 50 shops and restaurants in the area, under orders from Alandur zonal officer, Ramamoorthy.
During the raid, officials seized around 1.5 tonnes of plastic items. The officials warned and sent notices to the traders for violations. Inspections would be held on a regular basis to prevent use of the banned plastic items, officials added.
