Hyderabad Techie Loses Rs 47L to Social Media Like' Scam
Hyderabad: Cyberfraudsters allegedly duped a software professional of Rs 47 lakh, which they collected by promising him a job of marking ‘likes’ for social media content, that would pay Rs 7,000 a day. Police said the fraudsters made the offer via a text message, and the techie joined a Telegram group as directed.
In the group, he was instructed to ‘like’ a series of videos. The scam was that he had to pay more and more money to purchase tasks that would purportedly double his income. To tempt him, fraudsters showed the techie a fake account with the balance increasing.
When he paid Rs 47 lakh and could not access any money, the techie reported to the matter.
Cybercrime ACP K.V.M. Prasad said that the number of job fraud cases had been escalating, with an average of 7 to 10 being registered daily. He said software professionals were particularly vulnerable, with approximately 600 cases reported in the cybercrime station over the past six months.
