Hyderabad: 3 held for mixing Oxytocin in milk
Adulteration increased the quantity of milk five fold.
Hyderabad: Three persons from the old city area have been arrested by the Rachakonda Special Operations Team sleuths for using Oxytocin injections on the cattle to increase the milk production. The milk collected from the cattle was again adulterated and sold to the milk vendors and ice-cream manufacturers in the city, said the SOT police.
The sleuths of SOT on Thursday raided an adulterated milk making unit at Madannapet and apprehended Mohammed Rasheed, 25, Syed Moinuddin Quadri, 49, and Mohammed Shoaib, 20, an intermediate student.
SOT inspector G. Naveen Kumar said that accused Quadri has been doing cattle business for the last 15 years. In order to increase the production of milk, he was purchasing Oxytocin injections from one Nasir of Gujarat through one Mohammed Sajjad and was injecting the same to the cattle, despite knowing that it was harmful to the consumers.
“The accused also added substandard milk powder to the milk collected from the cattle. Accused Rasheed purchased the milk powder from Rajasthan and supplied them to Quadri through Shoaib. They were turning 20 litres of milk to 100 litres. The accused also confessed to selling the milk to vendors and also to some ice-cream manufacturers in the city,” said the inspector.
He said that the accused have been handed over to the Vanasthalipuram police who registered a case under Sections 420, 272, 273 and 188 of IPC, while efforts are on to nab the absconding Nasir and Sajjad.
The team seized 200 bottles of Oxytocin, 204 kg of substandard milk powder, Rs 15,000 cash, a packing machine and three phones from the arrested persons and produced them before court for judicial remand.
