Police remain clueless in Ambalamukku hit n' run

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even around three years after the infamous Ambalamukku hit and run being caught on CCTV cameras, the rash car owner who caused the death of a young woman cannot be traced. Sheeba, a mother of three was riding pillion on her husband’s bike when it was hit by a Maruti 800 car. She died on December 22, 2013 after spending 58 days in a coma.

While CCTV grabs captured the visuals, the number plates were not clear. The victim’s husband Santhosh Kumar of Kudappanakkunnu ran from pillar to post and even approached the Human Rights Commission to expedite the probe. However, the case was yet to be solved by the Traffic Circle Inspector who cites lack of clues.

“The probe is still on and we have scanned around 1000 vehicles. Nobody in the accident spot had noted down the number because they did not realise the car hit the bike. The car’s rear left side had only slightly brushed against the bike as it took a turn in a rash manner. The probe based on cell phone tower locations also did not elicit results,” said a probe official. “Staffers of around a hundred workshops in the state were questioned in connection with the case,” he added.
