Blast kills boy, 4; injures parents, grandmother in Guntur

The blast took place at the residence of one G Nagaraju who was trying to open a 20-litre can of paints.

Police arrested a 78-year-old man for allegedly killed his 70-year-old wife by pouring kerosene and setting and their 30-year-old daughter on fire at Muttuvancherri village near Ariyalur on Thursday night.

Vijayawada: Due to an unknown fire material blast, one boy died and three others have been injured in Kolanukonda village of Tadepalli mandal in, Guntur district on  Sunday. The blast took place at the residence of one G. Nagaraju who was trying to open a 20-litre can of paints. The four-year-old boy died on the the spot while Nagaraju, wife Bhanu, his mother Nagamani were severely injured and have been shifted to Government Hospital, Vijayawada North. Zone DSP Ramanjanyeulu is investigating the case.

As per the police’s primary report, there was no gelatin or any other blasting material in the box. It was an old paint box with some leftover paint in the box. The police suspect that Nagaraju may have tried to open the can violently and the blast may have occurred due to friction. Nagaraju’s condition is serious and he may lose an eye, hand and a leg, doctor said. His wife is stable while his mother condition is better.
