Telangana: Faculty to face trial for VNR students' death
The petition was filed by faculty members after the police held them responsible for the death of 24 students in the tragedy.
Hyderabad: The Himachal Pradesh High Court has directed the faculty members allegedly responsible for the death of 24 students of VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology to face trial in the additional chief judicial magistrate court in the state.
A petition filed by the faculty members challenging the Mandi police was dismissed on December 5 by the Himachal HC. The petition was filed by the faculty members as they were held responsible by the police for the death of 24 students in the tragedy that occurred in 2014 in the Bias River in Himachal Pradesh.
A Radhakrishna, president of the parents’ association of Bias river victims, said, “When the faculty members accompanied the students, it was their responsibility to take care of the students. As they failed to do so, the Himachal Pradesh High Court directed that they should face trail in the additional chief judicial magistrate court in Himachal Pradesh for negligence.”
