The Union Cabinet on Saturday approved for tightening the law against people involved in rape, following the public outcry over cases of sexual assault and murder of minors in Kathua and Surat and the rape of a girl in Unnao.

Hyderabad: Police have charged Akbar Ali, 45, headmaster of a government school at Shamshabad, with rape and kidnap for allegedly kidnapping and marrying a 17-year-old student and sexually assaulting her after marriage.

The principal has been booked under various sections of the SC & ST Prevention of Atrocities Act,  and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The student, from Muchintala village in Shamshabad mandal, who cleared the SSC exams in March 2017 as Ali’s student, approached him to help her clear a subject in the Intermediate exam, which she failed recently.

That was when Akbar, a father of four, allegedly kidnapped and married her, luring her with a promise to help her pass the examination.

After marriage, he took her home at Shabad, where he sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions, keeping her away from his parents.
